US passport now as weak as Mexico’s passport, new index rankings reveal

The US passport is now as weak as the passport of Mexico, according to a new report by The Henley Passport Index, which periodically measures the world’s most travel-friendly passports.

Before Covid-19 came, Air traffic had been rising steadily for decades and the average US passport-holder worldwide was enjoying visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 107 global destinations.

But now faced with travel bans, coupled with the fact that the US has the highest number of Coronavirus cases, the Henley Passport Index, has placed Japan and Singapore, both Asian countries, as the passports that allow its holders visit the most countries.

Japan, according to the index is offered visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 191 destinations around the world while Singapore is in second place (with a score of 190) and South Korea ties with Germany in third place (with a score of 189).

The standard ranking, however does not take temporary bans into account. Henley & Partners in a release said; “It is eye-opening to consider what travel freedom currently looks like for the holders of once-prestigious passports.”

Last week, the EU released its list of the 14 countries whose residents would be allowed entry into the EU from July 1, banning the US but allowing Japan, South Korea, Australia and Canada.

Japan and South Korea made the grade when it came to the EU’s coronavirus-related health and safety criteria, as did Australia and Canada (in joint ninth place on the Henley Passport Index).

The United States, currently placed seventh in official index, alongside Brazil and Russia is banned from entering the EU.

Under the current EU ban, Americans have been place around the same level of travel freedom as citizens of Mexico (No. 25 on Henley Passport Index, with a score of 159) and Uruguay (No. 28, with a score of 153).

Christian H. Kaelin, chair of Henley & Partners and the inventor of the passport index concept, says the impact of the EU’s recent decision will be far-reaching.

“As we have already seen, the pandemic’s impact on travel freedom has been more drastic and long-lasting than initially anticipated. This latest decision by the EU indicates that there is more upheaval to come.”

According to the index, the best passports to hold in 2020 are:

1. Japan (191 destinations)

2. Singapore (190)
3. South Korea, Germany (189)
4. Italy, Finland, Spain, Luxembourg (188)
5. Denmark, Austria (187)
6. Sweden, France, Portugal, Netherlands, Ireland (186)
7. Switzerland, United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Belgium (185)
8. Greece, New Zealand, Malta, Czech Republic (184)
9. Canada, Australia (183)
10. Hungary (181)

The worst passports to hold include:
103. North Korea (access to 39 destinations)
104. Libya, Nepal, Palestinian Territory (38)
105. Somalia, Yemen (33)
106. Pakistan (32)
107. Syria (29)
108. Iraq (28)
109. Afghanistan (26)

The Henley Passport Index is based on data provided by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and covers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations. It is updated in real time throughout the year, as and when visa policy changes come into effect.

Woman caught in bed with Pastor reveals why she got intimate with him

A 55-year-old Kenyan woman identified as Jane Omwaga underwent cleansing rituals on Tuesday July 7, after being caught engaging in sexual intercourse with a 52-year-old pastor, Moses Olutatwa on Monday July 6 in her matrimonial home at Elukho Village in Lurambi Constituency, Kakamega County.

The lady was caught in the act after her husband, Josephat Omwaga who works as a security guard at a local market returned home unannounced.

It was gathered that the paramour who is a Pastor at Solid Rock for Jesus Christ Church in Lurambi (where Jane fellowships) fled from the scene, leaving behind his motorcycle and some of his clothes.

The mother of three who explained why she got intimate with her pastor, accused her husband of not fulfilling his sexual and financial obligations.

Jane said;

“The pastor came to my home at 5am and knocked on my door, I let him in. We storied for some time and, thereafter, got in bed. We got intimate, and while at it, I heard my husband knocking on the door. The pastor and I hopped out of bed. I, thereafter, opened the backdoor for him (Olutatwa) to escape. However, my husband managed to open the main door and got in before the pastor could get far. However, my lover managed to pass through a barbed wire fence as my husband chased him with a panga in his hands.

“The pastor had seduced me recently. He said he wanted me, both emotionally and sexually. And, because he had shown that he had my interest at heart — by offering me financial and emotional support — I decided to allow him have sex with me. It was the first time he and I were getting intimate. My husband’s constant insecurity — that I was cheating on him — also pushed me to actually do it.”

Omwaga on his own part, said he won’t forgive his wife of 20 years for cheating on him. He said;

“Had I busted my wife having sex with the pastor in a sugarcane plantation or maize plantation, I would have forgiven her. However, she chose to disrespect me by bringing another man to our matrimonial bed, that is the highest level of disrespect, and I won’t tolerate it. I have made it clear to my spouse that I am divorcing her, and I would, thereafter, sell the parcel of land where our matrimonial home seats on, and relocate elsewhere.”

Before returning to her parents’ home in Khwisero Constituency, Kakamega County, Jane and Moses Olutatwa were asked to produce one cow each.

Jackson Makale, a Luhya elder told K24 Digital that the act of offering a cow each, would shield the wrongdoers’ families against misfortunes such as mysterious ailments or even deaths.

Area chief, Alex Mutende also condemned the incident and further revealed that the police has launched investigations into the ”shameful incident.”

A man who stuffs dollars from contractors in his babariga wants to isolate me – Wike slams Ganduje (video)

A man who stuffs dollars from contractors in his babariga wants to isolate me - Wike slams Ganduje (video)

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has slammed Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, after he dished out threats of isolating him ahead of the governorship election scheduled to hold in Edo state in September 2020.

Ganduje who was made Chairman of the APC National Campaign Council for Edo state had promised to dismantle alleged PDP’s rigging machine and send Wike, Chairman of its campaign council to the isolation centre. He also told reporters that the party will reclaim Edo State, which it lost to the opposition party with the defection of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He said;

“There is no soft spot for anything like that. The issue is that first of all, we know PDP made Governor Nyesom Wike their chairman; I assure you, we will isolate Wike in an isolation centre and before he recovers, the election is over.

“The PDP decided to accommodate our former governor in Edo State not because they have anything in common; not because they share some ideological feelings, but simply because he is managing the treasury of Edo State and they want him to use that treasury in order to win the election.

“But I assure you, the people of Edo State are watching they know that somebody who was assisted in 2016 to win an election, somebody who was given every cooperation to succeed in the governance of Edo State without doing much for the people, at the end of it, he has taken the treasury and now handed it over to PDP in order to win the election.”

Governor Wike who reacted to Ganduje’s threat, taunted him by saying he cannot influence the election with his ”dollars”. Speaking at the inauguration of the PDP campaign team in Abuja, Wike wondered how a “man who seen stuffing dollars in his babariga” can isolate him. He further stated that no one can intimidate them in the governorship election.

Wike said;

“Yesterday, I was told and today I read on the pages of newspapers that one Governor Ganduje said that he is going to isolate me until the election is over.

“If Nigeria is supposed to be a country, who is supposed to be isolated? A man who pockets dollars in ‘babanriga’ from contractors is not isolated and you say that me should be isolated. In this country, where are we heading to?

“Let me tell you why they [APC] made Ganduje the chairman of the campaign council – it is because of the dollars they saw.

“What he doesn’t understand is that we are from the Niger Delta; we shall chop his dollar and we will chop him to a coma. So, Ganduje, your dollar will not work in Edo State, we have integrity in our party.”

We’re in talks with UN for Biafra referendum –IPOB

Proscribed group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, has stated that they are in talks with the United Nations to hold a referendum for a sovereign state of Biafra.

In a statement by the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group claimed that they were making efforts to ensure the referendum which will be organized by the UN will take place soon.

According to Powerful, the referendum would be peaceful, and that everybody that lives within ‘Biafra territory’ would vote according to their conscience, calling a UN supervised referendum ‘a must’

We?re in talks with UN for Biafra referendum ?IPOB

He said, “It is quite clear and understandable to every citizen of Biafra and indeed the entire world that we need a referendum, where the people will exercise their right on whether or not they want self-rule or continued existence within Nigeria.

“A UN-supervised referendum is a must and a right for every human being in Nigeria to unequivocally state where they wish to belong.

“We in IPOB and Biafrans in general expect the United Nations to supervise this referendum, which will enable even those living beyond the boundaries of Biafra to equally determine their own fate. We want freedom for all, not just for Biafrans alone.”

“IPOB is making frantic efforts to ensure that this happens in the shortest possible time. We are not going to force or intimidate anyone or tribe because the will of the people is sacrosanct and must be respected. Each individual will be allowed to decide where he or she wishes to belong.”

Two-year-old girl ‘raped in Coronavirus isolation ward’

A two-year-old girl was allegedly raped while in a Coronavirus isolation ward at a hospital in South Africa.

The alleged incident happened at the Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Pretoria.

The toddler’s aunt, who chose to remain anonymous to protect the identity of the child, said that the girl was sexually abused while admitted at the hospital

She said the hospital told to the child’s mother that her daughter needed to be placed on an isolation ward after she developed symptoms of Covid-19. After the mother went home, she was contacted later that evening and told the child was crying and appeared to be in serious pain.

The aunt said that after the child had been picked up from the hospital, she appeared to be struggling to walk.

After the mother closely inspected her child she discovered that there had been ‘penetration’, according to the aunt.

Narrating the ordeal, the aunt told News24: ‘The mother and child were referred to the George Mukhari Hospital by the KT Motubatse clinic in Soshanguve on June 15,’ told News24.

‘The nurses at the clinic said since the child was struggling to breathe, she should be taken to George Mukhari Hospital to be tested for coronavirus.

‘The hospital called in the evening and told the mother that the child was crying and in pain. They later called around 11pm and said the child was now sleeping. The hospital staff called again in the morning and told my sister to come and pick up her child because she had been discharged. The hospital said the child had tested negative for Covid-19.’

‘I saw that there was something wrong with the child. As the mother was changing the nappy, she discovered some white fluid on her private parts.

‘She initially thought it was medication as the child had been in hospital. But the following day, that same whitish fluid was still coming out,’ the aunt told local media.

The girl was taken back to the hospital where a nurse reportedly confirmed that there was an indication that the child had been raped at the isolation ward.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters told News24 that a rape case has been opened, with the hospital also conducting its own investigation into the incident.

U.S. withdrews from World Health Organization over Coronavirus response

The Donald Trump administration has sent a letter officially notifying the United Nations that the United States is leaving the World Health Organization.

This comes two months after Donald Trump halted funding to WHO and threatened to withdraw U.S. from Organization over Coronavirus response.

In an email to reporters, a U.N. spokesman confirmed that it received the notification: “On 6 July 2020, the United States of America notified the Secretary-General … of its withdrawal from the World Health Organization, effective on 6 July 2021,” wrote Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres, adding that the U.N. is checking with WHO to see if all the conditions for withdrawal have been met.

According to reports, to leave the organization, the U.S. is supposed to give a one-year notice and pay outstanding dues. As of June 30, the U.S. owed $198 million in unpaid membership dues.

Trump has repeatedly criticized WHO for being slow in responding to the Coronavirus pandemic describing the body as “China-centric” and “a puppet of China”. He also blamed China for trying to cover up the Coronavirus outbreak.

Rep. James Comer (Ky.), the ranking Republican on the House Oversight Committee, called the withdrawal “the right decision.”

“Until the WHO undergoes some serious reforms, it doesn’t deserve our money or our membership,” he said in a statement.

Trump’s decision to withdraw the US from the World Health Organization has also sparked criticism.

US presidential candidate and former Vice-president, Joe Biden, said Tuesday that, if elected, he would immediately rejoin the organization and “restore our leadership on the world stage.”

“The World Health Organization will not disappear,” said Jimmy Kolker, a former ambassador who was the chief health diplomat for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the Obama administration. He told NPR: “What will happen instead is that the U.S. role will be diminished and that we won’t be able to bring our best experts into the room when discussions are taking place.”

In a statement, the American Medical Association said, “The Trump administration’s official withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO) puts the health of our country at grave risk.

“We join in strong opposition to this decision, which is a major setback to science, public health, and global coordination efforts needed to defeat COVID-19.”
